GIN BLOSSOMS LEAD SINGER FORMS NEW BAND THE GAS GIANTS
Gas Giants Join Public Enemy, Ice T, And Flashpoint In The Internet Music Revolution As They Sign Record Deal With Online Music Company Atomic Pop
LOS ANGELES (August 12, 1999) - Former lead singer Robin Wilson, of the multi-platinum Grammy nominated rock band the Gin Blossoms, has regrouped with fellow Blossoms drummer Philip Rhodes to form the Gas Giants. The Gas Giants join the ranks of Public Enemy, Ice T and Flashpoint as a new legion of artists embracing the Internet to promote, market and distribute their music. Today they announce their partnership with the leading online music company Atomic Pop to release their upcoming record, FROM BEYOND THE BACK BURNER.
"Robin Wilson comes from a multi-platinum band who has enjoyed huge success at radio and has been recognized with a Grammy Award nomination. This partnership is further evidence that artists of all backgrounds are realizing there are alternatives to the traditional means of getting your music to consumers," said Al Teller, Atomic Pop's founder and CEO.
Atomic Pop will release the first new record from the Gas Giants entitled FROM BEYOND THE BACK BURNER, which will be promoted, marketed, and distributed online, prior to the offline release on October 12. FROM BEYOND THE BACK BURNER will be available as a CD and digital download in mid-September via atomicpop.com and all participating e-commerce sites.
"Partnering with Atomic Pop gives us as a band unprecedented control over our music and the money it earns," says Wilson.
"Quitter," will be made available in retail outlets in the Gas Giants hometown of Phoenix on August 12, where a solid fan base continues to grow. The retail single will feature the album versions of "Quitter" and "Stinking Up The Charts," the acoustic version of "Quitter" and a cover of Kristy MacColl's "They Don't Know." "Quitter" is already receiving call in requests at Phoenix and Las Vegas radio stations. Digital downloads of "Quitter (acoustic)" and the cynical single "I Hope My Kids Like Marilyn Manson" are available via atomicpop.com.
The Gas Giants were formed in 1997 by Wilson, longtime friend and guitarist Daniel Henzerling, and former Gin Blossoms drummer Philip Rhodes. Wilson and Henzerling initially met as teenage record store clerks at their local Tower Records. It was not until 1998 that they would come together to write music and songs as the Gas Giants. The Gas Giants recorded the album in their home studio, dubbed "Mayberry," with Gin Blossoms' producer John Hampton.
